Biography
Originating as a German pop duo in the mid-1960s, Cindy & Bert first took shape once Norbert Maria Berger (born September 12, 1945) joined the Blue Birds on bass while the group sought a new vocalist. Jutta Gusenberger (born January 26, 1948) filled that role, prompting the ensemble to adopt the name Jutta & das Quintett Royal; however, by 1965 the lineup had dwindled to just Berger and Gusenberger, who began performing under the Cindy & Bert moniker. They wed in 1967 and issued their debut single two years afterward in 1969, achieving commercial traction across Germany throughout the 1970s with a total output of roughly 40 singles and 20 albums prior to their 1988 divorce. Jutta resumed a solo career as Cindy Berger, whereas Bert shifted his focus toward songwriting and production. The former partners resumed joint performances in the mid-1990s and continue to appear together on select occasions.
