Known as Germany's counterpart to Tom Jones, Jurgen Drews established a lasting presence in the nation's pop landscape through his gaudy schlager numbers and extravagant stage presence. Having performed earlier with Die Anderen and the Les Humphries Singers, he launched a solo career that first landed on the German charts in 1976 with the country-tinged success "Ein Bett im Kornfeld" (A Bed in a Cornfield). A string of smaller entries followed across the eighties, until he staged a return to prominence in the nineties via the Euro-dance track "König von Mallorca" (King of Majorca), whose momentum carried forward well into the 2000s.
