Juliane Werding launched her career as a leading pop/rock vocalist in Germany after claiming victory in a nationally televised talent contest in 1970. A major breakthrough arrived in 1972 with the release of "Am Tag als Conny Kramer Starb," her German-language interpolation of the Band's "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down." The 1975 single "Wenn Du Denkst Du Denkst, Dann Denkst Du Nur Du Denkst" reached number four on the German charts, while 1983 brought another success through "Nacht Voll Schatten," her cover of Mike Oldfield's "Moonlight Shadow." The 1986 ninth album Sehnsucht Ist Unheilbar remained on the charts for more than twelve months. During the 1990s her audience stayed strong, highlighted by the best-of collection Der Weg 1972 -- 1999 and a duet with British singer Howard Jones titled "I Remember" that closed the decade. Throughout the 2000s she continued recording and touring, while also appearing in a German-language production of The Vagina Monologues and authoring multiple books on religion and spirituality.
