Biography
Born Doris Hrda, the German vocalist known as Nicki first came to the attention of producer and songwriter Gog Seidl at the age of sixteen, leading directly to her initial recording agreement. Her debut single, issued in 1983 and titled “Servus, Mach’s Guat,” featured lyrics written in Bavarian dialect, a linguistic choice she maintained across her entire body of work; the album Servus Nicki appeared the following year. Over the subsequent decade she maintained a pace of nearly one full-length release annually, scoring recognition with tracks such as “So a Wunder,” “Wegen Dir,” “Mei Schönster Traum,” “I Bin a Bayerisches Cowgirl,” “Samstag Nacht,” “Doch die Zeit Bleibt Steh’n,” and “Du Bist in Meiner Macht,” alongside the albums Ganz Oder Gar Net and Immer Mehr. Although her sound remained anchored in synth-driven Europop, Nicki and her collaborators also explored Motown soul, country, and calypso textures. After an extended hiatus she attempted a comeback with the 2006 album I Gib Wieder Gas, which gathered those varied stylistic threads.
