Megan Thee Stallion, the Houston rapper whose lyrics brim with sexual explicitness and whose persona radiates relentless self-assurance, fuses those traits with a glossy pop finish that reliably produces mainstream successes. Local recognition arrived soon after she launched her performing career in 2016, and international attention followed with little delay. A string of standalone tracks preceded the 2017 mixtape Make It Hot and its 2018 successor Tina Snow. Her joint contribution with Normani on the song "Diamonds" for the 2020 superhero film Birds of Prey set the stage for two number-one hits: a Beyoncé-assisted remix of her own "Savage" and her featured turn on Cardi B's "WAP," one of the year's most prominent and widely discussed singles. Good News, her debut studio album, appeared in November 2020 and entered the Billboard 200 at number two. Born Megan Pete in 1995 and raised in Houston, Texas, she is the daughter of rapper Holly-Wood, also known as Holly Thomas, and absorbed Southern rap classics such as Three 6 Mafia and Pimp C from an early age. By fourteen she was composing her own raps, yet meaningful steps forward waited until she shared video clips on social media several years later. Her first official single, "Like a Stallion," arrived in 2016, and her standing in the Houston rap scene was reinforced by victories in local freestyle battles.

Sexually frank lyrics paired with fluid delivery emerged as hallmarks of her style, and after the 2016 mixtape Rich Ratchet, which reached limited audiences, she issued the singles "Pull Up Late" and "Stalli (Freestyle)" in 2017, the latter accompanied by a video that accumulated millions of views. The seven-track EP Make It Hot followed the same year, with a slowed "chopped" remix version appearing the next. Her profile rose swiftly; growing support led to a 2018 signing with 300 Entertainment and the release of Tina Snow, her most polished project to that point. The ten-song set included a verse from Memphis rapper Moneybagg Yo and beats from Concept P. The project gained traction, and the video for single "Big Ole Freak" amassed millions of streams within months of its February 2019 release.

Fever arrived in May 2019, featuring Juicy J and DaBaby, and reached number ten on the Billboard 200, solidifying her ascent. After her and Normani's contribution of "Diamonds" to the 2020 film Birds of Prey, she scored hits with the assertive "B.I.T.C.H." and "Savage," both on the EP Suga. Later that year she released "Girls in the Hood" and "Don't Stop," the latter with rapper Young Thug. Her standout moment arrived with "WAP," the August 7, 2020 collaboration with Cardi B. The track overflowed with sexual imagery and profanity, immediately becoming a global success. Widely hailed as 2020's "song of the summer," it topped charts in multiple countries, earned repeated platinum certifications, and accumulated hundreds of millions of streams.

Following numerous EPs, mixtapes, and charting singles, Megan's first studio album Good News arrived in November 2020. The release celebrated sex, wealth, and power through appearances by SZA, City Girls, Popcaan, Lil Durk, and others, plus the Beyoncé remix of "Savage." That remix became her first number-one hit, while the album itself peaked at number two on the Billboard 200. In 2021 she dropped several singles, among them "Thot Shit," which reached the Top 20, and in November released Something for Thee Hotties, a compilation built mainly from freestyles and archival material. The set also contained "Thot Shit" plus new skits and interludes with Juicy J, VickeeLo, and Dino BTW. Issued as thanks to her fans, Something for Thee Hotties climbed to number five on the charts.

Further collaborative singles appeared in 2022, including "Lick" with Shenseea and "Sweetest Pie" with Dua Lipa. She also released "Plan B," which reached number seven on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Later that year she issued her third album Traumazine, which entered the Billboard 200 at number four. The lyrically focused project addressed trauma and recovery, drawing guests ranging from Lucky Daye and Jhené Aiko to Key Glock and Houston artists Big Pokey and Lil' Keke.

In September 2023 the rapper reunited with Cardi B on "Bongos," the follow-up to "WAP," which reached the Top 20 of the Hot 100. That year she also starred in the musical comedy Dicks: The Musical and contributed the song "Out Alpha the Alpha." She closed the year with "Cobra," the first single from her third studio album. Megan Thee Stallion's third studio album Megan appeared in June 2024 while her Hot Girl Summer Tour was underway.
