Biography
Hugo Blanco, a celebrated Venezuelan composer and performer, created numerous iconic tracks for his nation while also originating the orquídea genre, which mixes salsa, merengue, and joropo in a celebratory manner. He entered the world in Caracas during 1940 and began mastering the cuatro upon reaching 15 years old, acquiring his skills by listening to broadcasts. At 18 years of age in 1958, Blanco penned "Moliendo Café," destined to achieve worldwide acclaim through almost 800 renditions across various tongues, though he waited until 1961 to commit his own version to tape. Around this period, he started crafting gaitas alongside the renowned Venezuelan vocalist Simón Díaz. Towards the end of the 1960s, he established the ska ensemble Las Cuatro Monedas. In the following decade, Blanco launched the well-received Los Hijos de Ña Carmen. Extending his creative output and stage presence into the new millennium, he produced several of Venezuela's most memorable compositions, such as "El Burrito Sabanero," "Leche Condensada," "Luces de Caracas," "Sierra Nevada," "Mañanita Zuliana," along with the ever-popular "Moliendo Café."
