Biography
Nino Bravo, born Luis Manuel Ferri Llopis, left behind a legacy as one of the foremost Spanish romantic balladeers when he perished in a car accident on April 16, 1973. Recognition first reached him in 1959 through performances with the young pop outfit Aielo De Malferit. He maintained momentum in the early-1960s trio Los Hispanicos, then, after a brief military interlude, aligned with Uamado Superson. His independent path opened in 1968 with a recital at Valencia’s El Teatro Principal, which secured a five-year Fonogram contract. The debut single “Como Todos” b/w “Es El Viento,” penned by Manuel Alejandro, quickly became a major Spanish success. Peak visibility arrived in 1972, soon after his marriage to vocalist Maria Amparo, when he represented Spain with an enthusiastically received appearance at the Festival de Rio de Janeiro. Alejandro later assembled the 1997 collection Duetos 2, which paired remixed versions of Bravo’s material with electronically simulated duets involving assorted artists.
