Biography
I Fight Dragons fuse chiptune textures with high-energy alt-rock while weaving in frequent nods to classic video games and nerdcore culture. The quartet formed in Chicago in 2008, anchored by singer/guitarist Brian Mazzaferri, lead guitarist Packy Lundholm, bassist Hari Rao, and drummer Chad Van Dahm. Their debut EP, Cool Is Just a Number, surfaced in summer 2009. The melodic pop-punk approach and offbeat aesthetic quickly drew notice, securing management and a deal with The Agency Group that launched their first national tour before the year closed.
A contract with Atlantic Records followed in early 2010 and opened doors to high-profile placements, among them a World Wrestling Entertainment pay-per-view special and the final episode of The Hills. Welcome to the Breakdown, their second EP and first Atlantic release, arrived in late 2010. The debut album Kaboom! appeared a year later. National touring continued, with much of 2012 devoted to the Warped Tour. Single “Save World Get Girl” gained prominent exposure on Nintendo Video, and by 2013 the band had returned to the studio for a second album. Early that year they issued a demo collection titled DEMOlition, then announced their exit from Atlantic and turned to crowdfunding for the next project. The subsequent Kickstarter campaign exceeded expectations, enabling delivery of the sophomore LP The Near Future in late 2014.
