Biography
Irish producer Seamus Malliagh crafts wildly energetic and hyperactive electronic music under the name Iglooghost, fusing juke/footwork, anime, IDM, hip-hop, and pop into a singular whirlwind. His compositions stand out for their intricate density, rapid motion, and playful cartoon energy, packed with elaborate rhythms, shrill vocal elements, and quick-cut samples. Despite the potential for sensory overload, these pieces maintain a sharp pop awareness that renders them both invigorating and lasting without ever settling into formula.
Around 2013 the producer began contributing beats to underground rappers including Milo and Kool A.D. Two limited cassettes followed in 2014—Treetunnels and Twenteen—highlighting his bright, saturated approach to abstract hip-hop production. After the 2015 collaborative album Milk Empire with California rapper Mr. Yote, the then-18-year-old Iglooghost joined Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint. His debut for the label, the digital EP Chinese Nü Yr, drew from a video-game-inspired narrative centered on a gelatinous, shapeless worm called Xiāngjiāo; though issued on Brainfeeder, the music aligned more closely with the pop-tinged abstract electronics associated with PC Music, Orange Milk, and Noumenal Loom.
The 2016 EP Little Grids marked Iglooghost’s second Brainfeeder outing and first vinyl release, extending Xiāngjiāo’s tale while adding fresh characters and featuring singer Charlotte Day Wilson plus a Slugabed remix. Later that year he reworked Abra’s single “Crybaby.” His first full-length, Neō Wax Bloom, appeared in 2017 and broadened the thematic threads from the prior EPs. In August 2018 he simultaneously issued the self-released EPs Clear Tamei and Steel Mogu.
