Biography
Scottish DJ and producer Sam Gellaitry shapes forward-thinking electronic music that bends genres while remaining both emotionally charged and suited for the club. He entered the scene during the 2010s as a teenager, issuing his opening project Short Stories in 2015. Further EPs appeared in quick succession, culminating in his first proper album, Viewfinder, Vol. 1: Phosphene, which arrived in 2019; its follow-up, VF Vol. II, surfaced three years later.
Raised in Stirling, Scotland, where he was born in the late ’90s, Gellaitry began experimenting with music after his older brother showed him a computer-based production program. Supported by his family, he exited school at 16 to devote himself fully to the craft. By 18 he had drawn sufficient notice for the electronic label and collective Soulection to put out his early EP Short Stories. The opening chapter of his Escapism series followed on XL Recordings in 2015. While performing at prominent events such as Coachella 2017, he completed two additional Escapism installments before unveiling Viewfinder, Vol. 1: Phosphene in 2019. In 2021 he released the EP IV, which contained the hit single “Duo,” marking the first occasion he featured his own vocals.
The next year brought VF Vol. II, presented as a mixtape that included the collaboration “Picture In My Mind” with PinkPantheress. “Assumptions” appeared in 2023 and received remixes from Jengi, BURNS, and Kaytranada. He finished the year with the EP Under the Illusion.
