Preston Chin, a producer based in Montréal, operates under the Robotaki name while fusing dance, funk, disco, and pop elements across both his remixes and original productions. Alongside his music career, he completed a Master's degree in Genetics as well as a second Master's in Musical Production and Synthesis, both at McGill University. Chin, who was born in Toronto, developed an early passion for electronic sounds that spanned acts like the Chemical Brothers and Moby plus video-game scores from the Silent Hill and Super Mario franchises. In 2010 he launched the Robotaki project—a playful alteration of the Japanese term "robatayaki" for grilled food—and quickly built a dedicated online following through K-pop remixes. Subsequent official reworkings came for Daft Punk, the M Machine, DJ Shadow, Kavinsky, and Chilly Gonzales, all while he continued juggling academic commitments with studio work. Original output began with the Raton Laveur EP in 2013; activity increased markedly a few years afterward, yielding the 2016 Majestic Casual singles "Ghostboy" and "Right Time" plus the 2017 tracks "Automaton," "Drunk," and "Monkey Bars." In 2018 he issued the Science EP, which included guest appearances from Nevve, SHOR, City Fidelia, Jamie Fine, and Falcxne.
