Biography
Born Tom Purcell, Wave Racer works as a producer and DJ out of Sydney and assembles buoyant electronic cuts shaped by disco along with late-aughts French electro. The project name itself comes from a Nintendo 64 title. Earlier he operated inside the duo Pablo J & Lobsterettes, the partnership that first nurtured his disco-house leanings. Frequently labeled future or neon, the music radiates playful energy and vivid brightness that recalls a Japanese anime soundtrack or a track from a rhythm-based video game. The summer 2013 debut single “Rock U Tonite” b/w “Stoopid” triggered a wave of remix requests from fellow artists. He then joined the Australian imprint Future Classic, also home to Cashmere Cat and Flume, and delivered the Flash Drive EP in late 2015, which included guest spots from Lido and Baby.
