Biography
Australian EDM producer, DJ, and vocalist Alison Wonderland, whose stage name carries a playful double meaning, first honed her skills as a classically trained cellist before pivoting to electronic music. Though she built a strong reputation for high-energy club performances centered on trap and future bass, her recorded work tends toward inward reflection, often drawing lyrics from personal battles with mental health. She has claimed the summit of both the American and Australian dance charts while landing inside the national Top Ten with each of her three albums: Run (2015), Awake (2018), and Loner (2022).
Born Alexandra Sholler, she spent several years creating remixes and working behind the decks before issuing her first original track, “Get Ready,” in 2013. The following year she joined the EMI roster and unveiled the tongue-in-cheek EP Calm Down, which earned praise from Annie Mac and Diplo while spotlighting the single “I Want U.” Run arrived in 2015 and included contributions from Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, Lido, and Slumberjack; to mark the occasion she hosted a string of release events at strip clubs scattered throughout Australia. “Happy Place,” issued in 2017, served as the initial preview of her next project, Awake, which was further previewed by the 2018 singles “Church” and “No” ahead of its April arrival. That set became her second release to top the U.S. dance chart and crack the Australian Top Ten.
Early in 2019 she teamed with fellow electronic artist Dillon Francis for a U.S. tour that coincided with their collaborative single “Lost My Mind.” The 2020 track “Bad Things” and the 2021 release “Fuck U Love U” both surfaced on her third album, Loner, which again reached the Australian Top Ten.
