Originating from Toronto, the electronic music duo Zeds Dead stands among Canada's most accomplished EDM outfits thanks to a relentless global touring circuit, multiple Billboard-charting releases, and Juno nominations. Early work centered on dubstep and electro-house, yet the palette later widened to include drum'n'bass, trap, electro-pop, and further varieties. While issuing material via Mad Decent, Dim Mak, and RAM Records, the pair maintains its own bass music imprint Deadbeats, the outlet for their first full-length album Northern Lights in 2016. Singles and remixes have continued flowing through the 2020s, including the 2021 mixtape Catching Z's and the 2025 album Return to the Spectrum of Galactic Happiness, introduced by the euphoric track "Heartbeat."

DC (Dylan Mamid) and Hooks (Zachary Rapp-Rovan) launched the hip-hop project Mass Productions in 2004 and self-released the album Fresh Beetz three years afterward. In 2009 they adopted the name Zeds Dead, drawn from a line in Quentin Tarantino's 1994 film Pulp Fiction, and shifted focus to house alongside the visceral dimension of dubstep. Their first track, the All Seeing I-sampling "Journey of a Lifetime," surfaced that year and became the initial entry in an ongoing series of free downloads; it was soon joined by additional gratis releases and a remix of Barletta's "Panther."

Activity intensified across 2010 and 2011. Material appeared on Kissy Sell Out's San City High, Steve Aoki's Dim Mak, and Diplo's Mad Decent; remixes were completed for Blue Foundation and the Electric; and extensive U.S. touring followed. The 2012 output began with the Inspected EP Adrenaline, which balanced high-impact dubstep cuts against restrained breakbeat pieces. The Living Dead arrived on Ultra several months later, after which Mad Decent issued a yearly trilogy of EPs: Victor in 2012, Hot Sauce in 2013, and Somewhere Else in 2014. The last of these featured Twin Shadow and Perry Farrell and reached the Billboard 200.

Their debut LP, Northern Lights, emerged on Deadbeats in late 2016 and featured Diplo, Pusha T, Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, Jadakiss, Styles P, and additional contributors. The subsequent year brought the Frontlines remix EP, a set of Northern Lights remixes, and a Canadian Independent Music Award for Electronic/Dance Artist of the Year; 2017 closed with the Jauz collaboration "Lights Go Down."

In 2018 the duo teamed with 1000Volts (rapper Redman and producer Jayceeoh) for the single "Kill Em" and also released tracks alongside Ganja White Night, Snails, and DNMO. The 2019 release "Lift You Up," recorded with Delta Heavy, appeared on the veteran drum'n'bass label RAM Records. Further singles preceded the 2020 label showcase We Are Deadbeats, Vol. 4, which incorporated additional work with Droeloe, Slushii, Omar LinX, and others; its deluxe edition added remixes plus collaborations with Rezz and Yultron. The 2021 mixtape Catching Z's followed, spotlighting singles such as "Lost Birds" with Elliot Moss, "I Think You're Cool" with Jenna Pemkowski, and "Late Night Drive." The non-album single "Alive" featuring MKLA generated multiple remixes collected on two EPs. Six collaborations and singles occupied 2022, among them "Gassed Up" with Subtronics and Flowdan. More singles across 2023 and 2024 preceded the 2025 album Return to the Spectrum of Galactic Happiness, supported by extensive touring that included Deadrocks XI, the eleventh edition of the duo's own festival.
