Tony Cook, a producer from Nottingham in the U.K., gained attention for his catchy, stripped-down approach to dubstep that centered on powerful sub-bass frequencies and adopted the name Cookie Monsta in 2008. Early experiments with music came through programming tracks on the PlayStation title Music 2000 (released as MTV Music Generator in the United States), though casual tinkering continued for several years afterward. The clear melodies and intense bass of artists such as Rusko provided the push to treat production more seriously. In 2008 the newly named Cookie Monsta delivered the mixtape Maryland Chocolate Chip Mix, built around aggressive rhythms, heavy low-end, and track titles like "Ginger Pubes" and "Stinky Ferret." The cuts "I Know Jujitsu," "Blurgh!," and "Fixed Penalty! I Was Like Rah!" surfaced on the 2009 mixtape Wheres My Cookie...?. Fellow producer Flux Pavilion played a role in guiding the rising Cookie Monsta to Circus Records in 2010. The label issued the Riot! EP in 2012, followed by the single "Yow Momma" in 2013. Tony Cook died on October 2, 2020, at age 31.
