Canadian electronic producer Snails forged a bombastic fusion of bass and dubstep that he labeled "vomitstep," a frenetic approach shaped partly by his teenage immersion in metal as a devoted Slayer enthusiast. Born Frederik Durand in Montreal, he entered the scene in 2012 via the Kannibalen Records single "Bubble Gun." Growing visibility soon drew notice from Flux Pavilion and Jack U, prompting additional releases such as "Wild" and "Pump This" ahead of his inaugural U.S. tour. Festival stages at multiple major EDM events followed in 2015. An international run came next in 2016, accompanied by joint efforts including Flux Pavilion on "Cannonball" and Pegboard Nerds on "Deep in the Night." Further partnerships defined 2017, among them Botnek for the OWSLA single "Waffle House" and vocalist Sarah Hudson on "Into the Night." His first album, The Shell, surfaced before the year closed.
