Born in Chula Vista, California, Abraham Laguna launched his electronic music career in his early twenties while enrolled at community college. Initially recording under the moniker Leisure, he built a following with inventive, high-energy house tracks before shifting toward trap productions and adopting the stage name Ookay. As Ookay, the San Diego-based artist earned widespread notice on Beatport and other platforms through remixes for Congorock, Steve Aoki, Chris Lake, Tony Junior, and additional acts. In 2014 he partnered with Diplo on a rework of Avicii’s “You Make Me,” joined Dutch duo Showtek for the single “Bouncer,” and issued his first EP, Ghost, on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak label.

Laguna has also issued material as Coaster that highlights his affinity for tech and deep house, yet his primary focus remains Ookay, sustained by frequent live dates and a strong social-media presence. After five years of steady singles and EPs, he delivered his first full-length project, the 2018 album Wow! Cool Album! His 2016 single “Thief” marked a commercial breakthrough, climbing to number 27 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart and accumulating millions of streams. October of that year brought the follow-up EP Cocoon. Early 2017 saw another hit with the Marshmello and Noah Cyrus collaboration “Stay Forever,” released for Valentine’s Day. In September he teamed with U.K. singer/songwriter Fox Stevenson for “Lighthouse” on the Monstercat imprint, rounding out a period of consistent output.
