Aaron Waisglass, a Toronto producer and DJ, issues an array of EDM and bass music as Grandtheft that spans trap and moombahton through future house. Rap initially drew his attention, yet exposure to rave culture arrived during his college years, prompting a body of work that blends multiple strains of hip-hop and dance alongside dancehall reggae and pop. Production and DJ sets began in the early 2000s, though wider notice arrived only in the early 2010s. The 2011 singles “Let Me Out” and “Gangsta Muzik” preceded a 2013 run of releases on Mad Decent, Top Billin Music, and Spinnin’ Records plus a Diplo collaboration on the remix of Calvin Harris’ hit single “Sweet Nothing” featuring Florence Welch. Further 2014 pairings arrived with Keys N Krates on “Keep It 100” and Smalltown DJs on “Flying,” while additional remixes were completed for Katy Perry, Dillon Francis, Alesso, and others. Grandtheft’s Quit This City EP, containing the single “Hold On” featuring Sleepy Tom, appeared via Mad Decent in 2015. The next year brought the dance-pop single “Easy Go” featuring Delaney Jane, which climbed into the Top 30 of Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and earned pop-radio rotation. Waisglass resurfaced in 2018 with “Jackson Pollack,” a single that featured rapper Roland Pemberton, known professionally as Cadence Weapon.
