Biography
Los Angeles-based Ephwurd operate as a sought-after house music pair recognized for their boundary-pushing take on electronic dance music, frequently labeled "bass house" on account of its modern dubstep-flavored "bwah" bass drops. The project came together in 2014 and showcases the skills of Canadian-born DJ/producer Troy Beetles, better known as Datsik, alongside California-born DJ/producer Basie Hauser, who records as Bais Haus and is the son of the late Manhattan Transfer member Tim Hauser. As longtime friends, the two first joined forces on music during a tour with Steve Aoki. In an effort to cultivate an aura of secrecy, Ephwurd issued their debut single "Closer to the Sun" in 2014 while keeping their personal identities under wraps. Their 2015 remix of Major Lazer and DJ Snake's "Lean On" then built anticipation ahead of the eventual unveiling. Once Datsik and Bais Haus confirmed themselves as the pair behind Ephwurd, they issued the high-energy Jauz collaboration "Rock the Party." Additional singles that earned strong notice appeared throughout 2015, among them "Duckface" and "Bring it Back." Ephwurd sustained their upward trajectory in 2016 by headlining a West Coast tour.
