Biography
Lophiile, a producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, distinguished himself through an innovative approach to production that blended disparate genres via inventive rhythms and electronics anchored in deep bass. Across an extended career trajectory, he contributed tracks for numerous rap, R&B, and EDM acts while unveiling his own jazz-inflected aesthetic through standalone releases and the 2019 EP To Forgive.
Born Ty Acord in Washington State, he spent his formative years in the Tacoma area before relocating to Los Angeles in pursuit of music production. While refining his personal sonic identity, Acord handled keyboards and turntables for the post-hardcore metal band Issues, balancing extensive tours with the group against studio work on his contrasting solo material. Initially recording as Scout, he developed a bass-driven sound that incorporated hip-hop, old-school funk, and organic R&B. Recognition followed as he produced for a broad roster that included Skrillex, Ray Blk, and additional artists. During this period he connected with London-based musicians Marco Bernardis and Fabienne Holloway; together the three formed the R&B group Radiant Children, merging Acord’s inventive sampling and electronic techniques with live, organic instrumentation. He later adopted the Lophiile moniker and shifted toward a more streamlined method that integrated his wide-ranging influences with earlier jazz training. The 2017 single “Newno” marked one of the earliest releases under this new identity. Throughout 2017 and 2018 he issued several collaborative tracks, among them “Off Top” with Freddie Gibbs and “Common Sense” with Vic Mensa. In 2019 the EP To Forgive appeared, containing five new Lophiile compositions that featured contributions from vocalist Sophie Faith and Jesse Boykins III.
