Biography
Emerging in the mid-2010s, the shadowy electronic pair Slumberjack entered Australia's bass circuit through early links with figures such as Alison Wonderland and Daniel Johns. By blending expansive house textures and low-end weight with more song-driven, organic structures, the project achieved greater traction via the 2017 EP Fracture and its 2019 successor Sarawak. Prolific output persisted into the following decade, highlighted by prominent releases including the 2020 Black & Blue EP and the duo's first full-length effort, Dichotomy, in 2022. Heavy, rave-focused production defined 2023's "Reptiles."
Morgan Then and Fletcher Ehlers first crossed paths at a Perth DJ contest, prompting them to form a production team that unveiled a self-titled debut EP in 2014. Quick partnerships with Australian talents including Wonderland, Fatherdude, and KLP helped root them in the nation's expanding bass community, yet Fracture served as the true breakthrough; its title track, carrying Vera Blue's vocals, gained broad international streams and earned gold certification on Australian charts. 2018 brought the singles "Daggers" alongside Machine Age and "Solid" with TroyBoi, plus a guest spot on Wonderland's Awake album. After moving to Los Angeles, the duo delivered the five-track Sarawak in 2019, which incorporated work from Claire Ridgely and Ekali. Another streaming success arrived that same year with "Crucified," a Daktyl collaboration spotlighting vocalist MOONZz. The cut later surfaced on Black & Blue, succeeded by the high-impact "Poison" featuring Sydnee Carter and 2021's "Better Off" with Lucy Lucy. These tracks, together with the John Pan joint "Pain," appeared on Dichotomy upon its early-2022 arrival. Subsequent singles such as "Reptiles" and "Bodymorph," the latter enlisting Serathrone, underscored an ongoing shift toward denser, rave-ready sonics.
