Biography
William Black crafts electronic productions that weave lyrical explorations of love, addiction, and mental health into expansive progressive rhythms and emotionally charged, anthemic dance lines. Residing in Los Angeles, the artist began issuing tracks in 2017 and rapidly cultivated a large streaming audience across the following two years, culminating in the arrival of his first album, Pages, in 2019. After the 2020 Slander collaboration “Back to U” achieved significant success, he issued his second full-length effort, Pieces, in 2021.
Raised in Orange County, Black absorbed a love of music from his father, a guitarist, while his sister later sparked his interest in dance sounds. Upon finishing high school he attended Icon Collective in Los Angeles to hone his craft. Early releases such as “Letting Go” featuring Park Avenue and “I Wish” featuring SKYLR connected strongly with listeners through their distinctive emotional approach to EDM. Momentum continued with the 2018 EP Universe, which included vocal contributions from Nevve and Sara Skinner. Support tours alongside Illenium and Said the Sky preceded the 2019 release of Pages, whose guest appearances came from Micah Martin, RUNN, and Prettyheartbreak.
The following decade opened with “Back to U,” one of his most prominent successes to date via the Slander partnership. Further singles arrived in the form of “Deep End,” “Remedy,” and “Only One I Need” ahead of Pieces, which surfaced at the end of 2021 and drew contributions from future-bass figures including Nurko, Haliene, and returning collaborator RUNN.
