Los Angeles electronic duo Vindata frequently get linked to EDM figures such as Skrillex and A-Trak, yet the pair’s dreamy, star-gazing sound aligns more closely with ODESZA and Slow Magic. Branden Ratcliff and Jared Poythress first crafted hip-hop and R&B productions before Justice’s debut album sparked their deep interest in electronic dance music. Throughout the early 2010s they honed a smoother style, shifting from aggressive, buzzing club tracks toward introspective downtempo material shaped by R&B and trap, characterized by lush, tactile melodies and intricate layering.

A 2013 remix of ODESZA’s “Without You” preceded the duo’s debut EP, For One to Follow, which arrived in 2014 alongside the single “Where You Are,” a collaboration with Sweater Beats and Bella Hunter. The project, especially its opening cut “All I Really Need,” drew notice from prominent EDM artists, resulting in festival bookings and official remixes for Ellie Goulding, Alex Metric, A-Trak, and Jack Ü, the joint venture of Skrillex and Diplo. In 2015 Vindata joined Skrillex’s OWSLA roster, placing the track “Continuum” on the label’s spring compilation before issuing their second EP, Through Time and Space…, that August. Over the following two years the duo stayed active, releasing the 2016 singles “Better” and “Crazy,” the Anderson Paak collaboration “Own Life,” and the 2017 single “Right Now” featuring Njomza and Alex & Alex.
