Prince Fox first approached music through guitar performance, tracing a singer-songwriter route modeled on one of his foremost influences, John Mayer. A trip to the dance music festival Electric Zoo prompted him to master electronic production techniques. Remixes he crafted for 3lau, Cazzette, and SNBRN drew the notice of Casablanca Records, which inked him to a deal in late 2015. Born Sam Lassner and named for two figures in The Little Prince, the Brooklyn-based artist and producer channeled his songwriting background into “forward-thinking pop” aimed at the dancefloor. Comparable to Disclosure or Zhu, he emphasized conventional song forms rather than the usual pattern of oversized builds and drops. His Musings EP arrived in October 2015, showcasing a lively blend of ’90s-inflected deep house on the tracks “Heartbeat Darkside” and “Wait Until Tomorrow.” Closing a standout year, Fox issued “I Don’t Wanna Love You,” which spotlighted vocals from Melody Noel. Early 2016 brought the Hailee Steinfeld-sung single “Fragile,” followed by “Oxygen,” which featured Michelle Buzz. Two atmospheric midtempo releases defined his 2017 work: the Bella Thorne-assisted “Just Call” and the Quinn XCII collaboration “Space.” In early 2019, Fox put out the single “Five Months Later” and joined DJ/producer Chantel Jeffries on her star-studded track “Facts.”
