Phantoms is an EDM duo from Los Angeles whose members are Kyle Kaplan and Vinnie Pergola. Their sound blends icy and hot electro-dance rhythms, a touch of techno, and abundant pop hooks. The pair, who label their style "alternative electronic," first appeared in 2016 and achieved widespread notice in 2017 when the single "Just a Feeling" featuring Vérité reached the top of the charts. Additional successes arrived with "Say It," "Moonlight," and "Firepit," the last of which was included on their second studio album, This Can't Be Everything, issued in 2022.

The two have been close since they were 15. Early on they worked in Disney-related television and film projects, with Kaplan appearing in Hannah Montana and 10 Things I Hate About You and Pergola appearing in That's So Raven and Miss Behave, before they devoted themselves entirely to music. After gaining experience as DJs they began creating original tracks as Phantoms and issued their first release, an all-instrumental self-titled EP, through OWSLA in 2013. For the next project they collaborated with E.B. Sollis, a songwriter who had moved to New York City, shifting the material toward songs with vocals. That effort, the Broken Halo EP, came out in 2015 and marked their initial release on Casablanca Records. Several remixes and singles appeared afterward, leading to the duo's first proper full-length album in March 2017.

In 2018 they released the joint singles "Agenda" with Nicole Millar and "Lay with Me" with Vanessa Hudgens. The following year brought "Designs for You," "Are You Up (feat. Shaylen)," and "Say It (feat. Anna Clendening)." A series of further singles, among them the successful "Firepit (feat. Big Wild)" and "Lay It All on Me (feat. Jem Cooke)," preceded the arrival of the 2022 album This Can't Be Everything.
