Biography
Jaimeo Brown Transcendence unites New York drummer and composer Jaimeo Brown with guitarist and producer Chris Sholar. Their partnership fuses archival blues, jazz, and folk material with live hip-hop, jazz, and electronic textures. The method first surfaced on the 2013 album Transcendence, released under Brown’s name alone, where African-American spirituals, East Indian music, and other rare samples received fresh settings. In early 2016 the pair delivered their initial album under the Jaimeo Brown Transcendence name. Issued by Motéma, Work Songs sustained the practice of sampling and reassembling uncommon recordings while adding saxophone work from Jaleel Shaw and J.D. Allen plus contributions from soul singer Lester Chambers and further guests.
