Biography
Actor and comedian Jamie Kennedy frequently targets Hollywood and his own trajectory through film and television for satirical effect. He entered the world in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, during 1970, later enrolling at Delaware County Community College only to withdraw before relocating to Los Angeles in pursuit of acting and stand-up opportunities. Following a prolonged period spent working as a background performer, he invented the fictitious talent agent Marty Power, borrowing the name from the actual representative Marty Bauer. By adopting this alias in phone conversations, he arranged his own stand-up engagements. That audacious comedic style ultimately opened the door to his screen debut in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet. The exposure next brought him the widely recognized part of horror enthusiast Randy Meeks in the 1996 genre hit Scream and its follow-up installments. Such visibility paved the way for his own series, The Jamie Kennedy Experiment, which premiered in 2002 and lasted two seasons despite early audience interest. He also served as producer on WB’s The Starlet and Living with Fran. In addition to these projects, he appeared as a principal performer across many features and programs, among them Malibu’s Most Wanted, whose central figure is the sheltered offspring of a United States senator intent on a rap career. In a parallel move, Kennedy ventured into hip-hop himself via the MTV pseudo-reality series Blowin’ Up, which chronicled his joint efforts with partner Stu Stone to create and launch a rap record; that endeavor yielded the 2006 album sharing the show’s title.
