A Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist and composer, Jenny Conlee first gained widespread recognition playing keyboards and accordion in the indie rock group The Decemberists, a partnership that has now lasted more than twenty years. Seattle-born and long based in Portland’s thriving music community, she established both the Jenny Conlee Quartet and the accordion-focused ensemble Paper Bellows while contributing to recordings by The Minus 5, the Chieftains, Rhett Miller, and Boston Spaceships. Her original scores have accompanied the film Voyagers Without Trace as well as the podcast 99% Invisible, and she has issued two solo projects: the 2015 album French Kayaking Music, created with her husband Steve Drizos, and the 2023 release Tides: Pieces for Accordion and Piano. Beyond the recording studio she has also taken on-screen roles in Portlandia, The Simpsons, and Parks and Recreation.
