Born Carlos Eduardo López Avila in London, England, the artist received the name Jeremias from his father at age 11 in hopes of helping him distinguish himself. He spent the greater part of his childhood and youth in Venezuela, the homeland of his family. Encouraged by his parents, he immersed himself in music through guitar and vocal training and composed his first song before turning nine. Though he later pursued studies in literature and psychology at Catholic University in Caracas, his true ambition remained fixed on a musical career. In 2000 he established Avila Records, his independent label, and two years afterward issued his self-titled debut album. Once the record reached listeners in Spain, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela, Jeremias secured sufficient recognition to contact Universal Latino, which signed the singer-songwriter and released Ese Que Va por Ahi in 2006.
