Biography
Jeremie Albino crafts music steeped in gritty storytelling and roots-driven rhythms laced with memorable melodies, drawing from country, Americana, raw roots rock, soul, and vintage blues while based in rural Prince Edward County. Every layer of emotional weight surfaces in his lyrics centered on the land, its inhabitants, and their narratives. His 2019 debut Hard Time represented the first occasion he entered a studio alongside a full band. 2021's raw, gorgeous Blue Blue Blue emerged from sessions with roots singer/songwriter Cat Clyde and featured seven covers alongside two originals. 2023's raucous Tears You Hide ranged widely across Albino's stylistic spectrum, binding the elements through themes of longing, regret, and reflection. In 2024 he tracked Our Time in the Sun at Nashville's Easy Eye Sound with producer Dan Auerbach and the studio's assembled players, resulting in a dozen songs composed directly on the studio floor.
Born and raised in Toronto, Albino absorbed the earliest Delta blues sounds of Skip James, Furry Lewis, and Lightning Hopkins during his formative years. At age 15 he took up guitar and soon added harmonica. He joined Toronto's thriving street-busking community, sharpening his ability to engage live audiences. Drawn to a quieter rural pace, he relocated to Prince Edward County in southern Ontario, where he spent a decade working farms and absorbing country existence before writing songs each evening after days in the fields.
An open-mike appearance in the area drew encouragement from listeners who responded strongly to his performance, which led to additional bookings and ultimately an indie recording agreement with Johny Shipes' Cinematic Music Group. For the first time he rehearsed and recorded with a band, placing nearly every song he had written—including his earliest composition, "Shipwrecked"—onto the resulting album. Titled Hard Time, the record delivered intimate depictions of rural life and earned acclaim from blues, folk, and Americana critics spanning North America to Australia.
Albino took a band on tour yet also performed numerous solo dates throughout Canada and the U.S. Two years afterward he collaborated with Southern Ontario singer/songwriter Cat Clyde on 2021's Blue Blue Blue after getting acquainted through shared gigs and joint live appearances. The project included seven covers drawn from Blind Willie McTell, Woody Guthrie, Elizabeth Cotten, Bob Dylan, and A.P. Carter, plus two originals they created together.
Albino resurfaced in 2023 with Tears You Hide, a raucous display of edgy songwriting voiced through folk, blues, and country. Reviewers praised the set's poignant intensity along with the emotional and psychological depth of its central figures. The album received broad acclaim and opened opportunities for Albino to expand his touring itinerary into Europe and England.
Right after concluding road commitments, Albino entered conversations with producer, label head, and musician Dan Auerbach of Black Keys, then journeyed to Nashville to record at Easy Eye Sound. Auerbach assembled players including Tommy Brennek of Menahan Street Band, Malcolm Catto of Heliocentrics, Tom Bukovac, Mike Rojas, Sam Bacco, Tim O'Brien, and a four-piece horn section across various tracks, while contributing guitar and additional instruments himself.
The pair composed material inside the studio and captured the performances live on the floor. Released by Easy Eye Sound in November 2024, Our Time in the Sun pulsed with rootsy drive and potent feeling, even as its first single "Rollin' Down the 405" took the shape of a bluesy country boogie. The songs channeled Albino's personal longings, heartbreaks, triumphs, and setbacks as well as those of his Prince Edward County neighbors.
