Amigo the Devil

Drawing from noir-folk roots, Amigo the Devil interlaces rugged Americana foundations with reflective narratives and touches of gothic intensity. Motifs of mortality, violence, and unease run through the 2018 album Everything Is Fine and its 2021 successor Born Against, both anchored in the performer's austere banjo and guitar work yet augmented by expansive orchestral passages and forays into heavy metal. The project's third studio release, the experimental Yours Until the War Is Over, surfaced in the first months of 2024.

Miami, Florida-born Danny Kiranos, operating under the Amigo the Devil name, internalized the sonic legacies of his Greek father and Spanish mother before merging them with American folk, alt-rock, and metal elements. Brief engagements with film and culinary programs preceded a role in the San Francisco brewing sector, where he launched performances under that moniker. A later relocation to Austin, Texas enabled the venture to solidify, yielding EPs assembled into the 2018 collection Volume 1.

Kiranos soon aligned with Regime Music Group to improve reach via his independent Liars Club imprint. Later in the same year he issued his initial proper album, Everything Is Fine. While preserving his signature darkness, the record marked an evolution toward wider compositional scope that embraced diverse genres alongside deeper personal themes. Born Against in 2021 extended the approach through string ensembles and a production aesthetic recalling Tom Waits' 1980s recordings. Amigo the Devil sustained this exploratory direction on Yours Until the War Is Over in 2024, sharpening his ability to recount macabre stories.
