Biography
Born Jonah Rzadzinski Matranga in Brookline, Massachusetts, Jonah Sonz Matranga built his reputation as a singer and songwriter primarily through his role as Far’s frontman and through solo work issued under the Onelinedrawing name. He departed Massachusetts in 1987 to enroll at Pitzer College in California. Following graduation he relocated to Sacramento, where he assembled Far in 1991. The group produced four albums before dissolving in December 1998, prompting Matranga to begin performing solo under the Onelinedrawing banner—a title first used for a cassette issued by Kevin Seconds’ Pop Rockit label. That same year he issued two EPs, Sketchy EP #1 and Sketchy EP #2. While most of his output has appeared on his own imprint, distribution has frequently involved partners such as Crank!. Jade Tree handled the two Onelinedrawing full-lengths, Visitor (2002) and The Volunteers (2004). Matranga retired the Onelinedrawing alias in 2004, thereafter issuing solo material under his given name. Beginning in December 2004 he made custom recordings available directly through his website. Beyond Far and the brief New End Original venture, he also formed Gratitude, whose lone album surfaced in March 2005 before the project was swiftly discontinued. In 2005 he released Sketchy EP #3 along with the DVD There’s a Lot in Here, which Equal Vision reissued with an added bonus CD in February 2006.
