June Panic

June Panic crafts songs as a vocalist and innovator in sound while based in Fargo, North Dakota. Listening brings to mind Bob Dylan for the way traditional American musical foundations get reshaped through an intensely personal lens, sometimes pushed into nearly unrecognizable territory; Marc Bolan for a taste for theatrical excess and wildly flamboyant, even absurd, imagery; and Skip Spence not merely for handling every instrument on his own albums but for the anxious, enclosed feeling that binds together his otherwise scattered approaches. The singing carries echoes of Gordon Gano from the Violent Femmes, and the song topics explore comparable ground marked by nervous tension, erotic unease, and personal belittlement.
