Biography
An energetic fusion of rock, hip-hop, and dance-pop propelled the Danish duo Junior Senior to widespread popularity in the United Kingdom during the early 2000s, yet their deepest loyalties stayed rooted in Jutland, the western peninsula that forms their native Denmark. The seeds of their partnership first took hold in 1995, when Jesper "Junior" Mortensen and Jeppe "Senior" Laursen both exited the Copenhagen indie outfit Ludo-X. Three years afterward they officially assembled Junior Senior and secured a recording contract with the Danish imprint Crunchy Frog. From that base they produced the irresistible single "Move Your Feet," which topped the list of most-played tracks in Denmark and soon saturated radio playlists across Europe. Their debut full-length, the widely acclaimed D-D-D-Don't Stop the Beat, appeared in 2003. Global success ensued, complete with soundtrack contributions to Looney Tunes: Back in Action and the Amanda Bynes comedy She's the Man, prompting the pair to return home to Denmark and deliver the follow-up Hey Hey My My Yo Yo in August 2005, again through Crunchy Frog. That album peaked at number two on the Japanese charts, while the track "Can I Get Get Get" featured in an episode of the hit series Ugly Betty; nevertheless, U.S. listeners waited two more years before the domestic label Ryko finally released it stateside.
