Formed in 1982 under the name Jogger in the town of Lutte, the ostrock band that later became known as Keimzeit originally consisted of siblings Norbert, Harmut, Roland, and Marion Leisegang. They soon adopted their new moniker and built a devoted following across East Germany throughout the remainder of the 1980s. Marion’s departure in 1985 signaled the first of many significant lineup shifts that would define the group’s trajectory. The collapse of the Berlin Wall in 1989 finally allowed them to reach audiences beyond the former East German borders, leading to the release of their debut album Irrenhaus the next year. Their follow-up effort, Kapitel Elf, arrived shortly afterward, and 1993 brought Bunte Scherben, the most popular album of their catalog and the vehicle for their sweet, rootsy hit single “Kling Klang.” Over the ensuing fifteen years the band issued six additional studio albums while continuing to register success on the German and Austrian charts well into the 2000s.
