Biography
Hailing from Suffolk, Virginia, Kenn Starr first absorbed the sounds of Nas, 2Pac, A Tribe Called Quest, and Ras Kass while growing up there, crafting his earliest rhyme by the age of ten. During his studies at the University of Maryland Starr he assembled the Low Budget crew, which included himself along with Oddisee, Kevin Brown, Critically Acclaimed, Cy Young, and others. A close bond with Oddisee enabled him to join D.C.’s Halftooth Records, where he first attracted notice through the 2004 compilation You Don't Know the Half via the track “If,” also featuring Talib Kweli and Asheru. His debut full-length project, Starr Status, finally appeared in 2006.
