Biography
Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, the electro-pop duo Kids of 88 channels the driving rhythms typical of 1980s music. Jordan Arts and Sam McCarthy first connected during their school days through a mutual enthusiasm for music that surfaced in English class. They introduced their winding, synthesizer-driven style in 2008 before issuing their debut single, “My House,” independently on the Dryden Street label the next year. The track gained momentum, reaching platinum certification in New Zealand and prompting interest from Sony Music. Kids of 88 delivered their first full-length album, Sugarpills, in 2010 and toured in support of Kesha later that same year. The five-song Sugarpills EP arrived in 2011.
