Serving as the leader of his ensemble without taking up an instrument himself, Kip Hanrahan functions as an innovative visionary and a gifted assembler of star-studded progressive groups. As founder of the American Clave label, Hanrahan has issued the albums Tenderness, Exotica, Darn It!, Anthology, All Roads Are Made of the Flesh, and Desire Develops an Edge. His sound merges Latin rhythms with avant-garde sensibilities. Performers who have joined his lineup include Jack Bruce, Don Pullen, Leo Nocentelli, Robbie Ameen, and Alfredo Triff.
