KULT

Established in Warsaw during 1982, the versatile and at times politically provocative Polish rock outfit Kult emerged as a collective skilled at fusing punk, jazz, new wave, psych, and hard rock. Built around mastermind Kazik Staszewski on saxophone and lead vocals together with Piotr Wieteska on bass, Tadeusz Bagan on guitars, and Dariusz Gierszewski on drums, the band initially leaned on new wave and alternative rock foundations. With personnel changes accumulating across the years, Kult matured into a broadly cosmopolitan ensemble able to draw freely on a range of styles throughout its 13 studio albums, among them a 2010 MTV Unplugged recording that carried the group’s reach well beyond Poland.
