Biography
Noise-rock outfit Kustomized took shape under the guidance of singer and guitarist Peter Prescott, who had previously played in the influential 1980s post-punk groups Mission of Burma and the Volcano Suns. The original lineup also featured guitarist, violinist, and organist Edd Yazijian alongside bassist Bob Moses and drummer Kurt Davis, the onetime frontman of Bullet LaVolta. The group assembled in Boston in the fall of 1993 and sharpened its sound by opening for Yo La Tengo and Helium. After inking a deal with Matador, Kustomized released its debut EP, The Mystery of Kustomized, in the middle of 1994. The single "The Day I Had Some Fun" appeared the following year, and later in 1995 the band unveiled its first full-length album, The Battle for Space. Malcolm Travis, previously the drummer in Sugar, came aboard in time to record At the Vanishing Point, which surfaced in 1996.
