Born on March 2, 1968, in Maryland, Kyle Hollingsworth earned his primary recognition as keyboardist for the Boulder, Colorado-based jam band the String Cheese Incident. While studying music with a jazz-piano emphasis at Towson State University, he also performed with Black Friday, the psychedelic rock outfit from Baltimore. After relocating to Boulder, Colorado, he entered the String Cheese Incident lineup, handling electric piano, Hammond organ, clavinet, synthesizer, and accordion, in addition to supplying vocals and writing material, some of it created with Robert Hunter. During periods when the band was inactive, he mounted tours under several monikers—the Kyle Hollingsworth Band, Kyle Hollingsworth & Friends, Remarkable Elba Kramer, and 3 Foot Icon. His first solo album, Never Odd or Even, surfaced in 2004 and showcased contributions from saxophonist Joshua Redman and pedal steel player Robert Randolph. He joined the Mickey Hart Band on the road in 2007 and then accompanied the Fiery Furnaces throughout spring 2008. Then There's Now, his second solo album, appeared in 2009, with Speed of Life following as his third release in 2014.
