The duo LANNDS, formed by Rania Woodard and Brian Squillace, crafts an intimate, atmospheric strain of indie electronica equally at home in downtempo club environments or solitary headphone sessions. Three EPs marked the start of their partnership, among them the 2017 debut wide awake in a sleep world, before their inaugural full-length Music for the Future appeared in 2023.

Rania Woodard, who relocated from Memphis to Florida, began performing vocals in church settings and picked up blues guitar during her mid-teens. Songwriting attempts followed in high school, with synth and recording experiments emerging in her early twenties. Jacksonville-area producer Brian Squillace assisted her self-release of the textured guitar-based single “Still” under the LANNDS name in mid-2016. As that track drew indie blogosphere notice and streaming numbers, she posted the off-kilter “wide awake.” Two additional singles arrived in early 2017, all four tracks maintaining an airy, melancholy character, and were compiled into the wide awake in a sleep world EP. By the July 2018 release of the legends EP, LANNDS had formally become a duo.

November 2020 brought the third EP lotus, with songwriting, producing, recording, and mixing all attributed to LANNDS. Their signing to Run for Cover Records was marked by the February 2022 arrival of lotus deluxe, expanded with three new tracks. Squillace’s Jacksonville home studio hosted the bulk of recording for the debut album Music for the Future, though select vocal takes originated during 2021 writing sessions at a cabin in northern Georgia. Run for Cover issued the completed album in March 2023.
