Lars Frederiksen first rose to prominence as guitarist and lead vocalist for the punk revival outfit Rancid, establishing himself as a fixture in the California punk community beginning in the 1990s. Beyond his commitments to Rancid, the Old Firm Casuals, and Lars Frederiksen & the Bastards, he maintains a busy production schedule that has included sessions for Dropkick Murphys, Forgotten, Agnostic Front, Marky Ramone, and the Gadjits. Rancid delivered its ninth studio album, Trouble Maker, in 2017, while Frederiksen unveiled his initial solo EP, To Victory, in 2021.

Born Lars Everett Dapello in Campbell, California, he first drew attention as a member of U.K. Subs during their 1991 U.K. tour. He entered Rancid’s lineup in 1993 and appeared on the group’s second release, Let’s Go. As one of the defining bands of the ’90s punk resurgence, Rancid fused Clash-inspired leftist punk, ska, and hardcore into an intense sound that cultivated a devoted audience. The band achieved broader commercial recognition with its platinum-certified third album, ...And Out Come the Wolves, yet maintained its independent ethos and declined offers from major labels, instead forming an Epitaph subsidiary to support solo endeavors and emerging acts. While remaining active with Rancid, Frederiksen assembled the side project Lars Frederiksen & the Bastards, issuing the self-titled debut in 2001. The follow-up, Viking, surfaced in 2004, succeeded by the Switchblade EP in 2006. In 2010 he formed the street-punk trio Old Firm Casuals with Casey Watson (Look Back and Laugh, Never Healed) and Paul Rivas (Never Healed). After several 7-inch singles, the band issued its first full-length, For the Love of It All.., in 2013. Two additional Old Firm Casuals albums, This Means War and A Butcher’s Banquet, followed in 2014 and 2016. Rancid marked its 25th anniversary with the ninth album, Trouble Maker, in 2017. Holger Danske, the fourth Old Firm Casuals LP, appeared in 2019, and in 2021 Frederiksen released his debut solo effort, To Victory, a six-track collection featuring reinterpreted material from his various projects alongside select covers.
