She pursued studies at Oxford University, taking composition lessons from J.W. Duarte, Vincent Persichetti, Hall Overton, Jacob Druckman, and Emmanuel Ghent. On the performance side she plays both guitar and lute. From 1973 to 1974 she was employed at Bell Labs, where her work also extended into computer graphics. She authored the software Music Mouse, a program that removes any need for keyboards or sampled and acoustic sound sources. Her catalog includes many film scores and video pieces created with Nam June Paik and additional collaborators; NASA later carried her realization of Kepler’s Music of the Spheres beyond Earth. Numerous grants and awards have supported her efforts, and she has directed computer-music activities at the Aspen Music Festival, Bucks County Community College, Cooper Union, and NYU. She continues to work as a freelance computer consultant.
