Biography
Letdown. stands apart in the current decade thanks to its clean, distortion-free take on modern rock, yet this approach draws listeners far beyond the usual reach of its mid-2000s Warped Tour-inspired style. Tracks such as “Crying in the Shower,” “Empty,” “Go to Hell,” and “Love Is a Weapon” generated unusually strong social-media traction, with listeners relating directly to the unfiltered accounts of emotional pain embedded in the lyrics.
The project originates with Blake Coddington, who grew up amid considerable family turmoil in Dallas, Texas. After his mother left the household during his early years and classmates treated him as an outsider, Coddington sought relief through music, eventually mastering over a dozen instruments while working as a supporting player in various groups and gaining experience in production and engineering roles.
The 2020 COVID lockdowns halted live-music activity just as Coddington had relocated from Chicago to Indiana, where he was employed as a sales representative for a music-gear firm. At that point he chose to pursue a solo path, launching Letdown.—the period included for stylistic effect—and blending melodic, upbeat rock arrangements with candid reflections on his personal struggles and mental-health experiences. Sharing material on video platforms then dominated by pop and hip-hop creators, he broke through with initial releases including “Sober,” “Pain,” “Letdown,” “Love Is a Weapon,” and a guitar-driven rendition of Maroon 5’s first single, “Harder to Breathe.” As streams surpassed several million, Coddington moved to Nashville and discovered that live audiences responded with equal enthusiasm once venues resumed operations.
After issuing his debut EP, the 2023 set Crying in the Shower—which included the driving title song along with “Empty” and “Shipwreck”—Letdown. secured a contract with Mercury while sustaining its following through consistent social-media engagement, including Coddington’s habit of replying to fan messages, and a steady run of festival appearances. The full-length album Be OK arrived in fall 2024, spotlighting “Go to Hell,” “Crying in the Shower,” and its title track, a collaboration with Canadian alt-rocker LØLØ.
