Biography
Originally named Eliane Falliex, French jazz singer Liane Foly came into the world in French Algeria on December 16, 1962. Early performances took place alongside her parents' orchestra while she was still a child, after which she pursued a solo route. Although discovered in 1984, her career gained real traction only in 1987 once Fabrice Hataf, artistic director at Virgin France, took notice of her. The following year saw the release of her debut album, The Man I Love, which met with immediate success. Across the next nearly two decades she issued nine further albums that extended those gains, among them two live sets and the 2002 compilation Au Fur et a Mesure. Her eighth full-length, le Gout du Desir, appeared in 2008. Film work also featured in her output, including a role in the 2006 production Navarro.
