Biography
Lissy Trullie surfaced in 2008 as a New York style fixture and rising performer whose look favored bowler hats alongside punk-edged couture and whose sound leaned on loose indie pop. Fashion spreads in Elle, SOMA, and Jalouse showcased her polished appearance at the same time that raw, low-fidelity song sketches drew interest from multiple labels. She ultimately joined American Myth Recordings and issued her first EP, Self-Taught Learner, in February 2009. An expanded edition of that EP surfaced months afterward once she moved to Downtown Records. Late in 2009 she started shaping her first full-length album, holding early sessions with Bernard Butler, formerly of Suede, before finding stronger rapport with John Hill, whose credits include Rihanna, Kings of Leon, and M.I.A., plus Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio. Lead single “Madeline” appeared as a download in November 2011, and the self-titled album arrived the following March.
