Listener

Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, the indie group Listener fuses spoken-word delivery with a distinctive sound shaped by Southern rock and punk. What started in 2002 as a solo project led by frontman Dan Smith gradually grew into a cohesive band whose lineup features Smith on vocals and bass, Christin Nelson on guitar, and Kris Rochelle on drums. Their catalog includes the 2003 release Whispermoon, the 2005 album Ozark Empire, and Wooden Heart from 2010. Time Is a Machine appeared in 2013 as the quartet’s fourth full-length effort. Two years afterward, Nelson exited and touring guitarist Jon Terrey took his place.
