Born in Rome, Georgia, in 1978, singer/songwriter Liz Durrett received early guidance in her craft from her uncle Vic Chesnutt, himself a noted singer/songwriter. During her teenage years in the early to mid-1990s, while finishing high school and spending one year at the University of Georgia in Athens, she laid down her material with Chesnutt handling production duties. After spending several years in Oakland, California, alongside her future husband while he studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, the pair returned to Athens, where she started appearing in local clubs. WARM Electronic Recordings finally issued her teenage recordings as the album Husk on February 22, 2005, after which her live work expanded to include an East Coast run with Crooked Fingers in March 2005 and a spring European tour as a member of Chesnutt’s band. Her second album, The Mezzanine, arrived on January 24, 2006, prompting a year of extensive U.S. touring. In February 2008 she performed across Italy, and her third album, Outside Our Gates, came out on September 9, 2008.
