Biography
LNZNDRF—sounding out as “Lanzendorf”—arose from a side project uniting the National’s Scott and Bryan Devendorf with Beirut trombonist Ben Lanz, credited as Hoferlanz, whose road and studio work has also supported the National. Its self-titled debut, assembled from improvisations tracked inside a Cincinnati, Ohio church across fewer than three days, surfaced on 4AD in February 2016 with scant advance notice. Although linked to the parent band’s catalog, the record leaned into a darker post-punk palette that more readily echoed the Cure and New Order than the members’ other endeavors.
